The New Quest

Hey Will here and as some of you may have heard a new King’s Quest game has been announced recently. When I heard about it I couldn’t help but write something. You see even though I was young for the whole King’s Quest fad in the ‘90’s I still played through King’s Quest VI: Heir Today Gone Tomorrow. When I say play it I mean I watched my older sister and mother struggle through the seemingly impossible challenge the game offered. It was the first video game I can remember actually caring about and I would sit down next to the computer every night to watch my sister and mother play; to me it was like watching a really fantastic TV show. But putting that entire backlog aside I’m actually excited to see how this game will turn out. I’m pretty sure the King’s Quest series stopped producing any new games in the late 90’s and it will be interesting to compare it to its predecessors.
There is no doubt in my mind that this game will hold up the King’s Quest legacy, Telltale has shown through their other adventure games (Sam and Max, Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, Monkey Island) that they still know how to make a fun and exciting game from such a seemingly boring genre. What I’m curious about is the difficulty of the game. Will it be as ridiculous as its predecessors or will it be watered down and easier to play? The reason I ask this is because I have been able to beat Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People and the first episode of Sam and Max with little to no difficulty. On the other hand when I recently dabbled in King’s Quest 6 and 7 I found the puzzles to be mind numbing and had to look online for help. I personally would prefer the game to be a little easier than the other ones but on the flip side that could tarnish the King’s Quest name, the series has established itself as being some of the hardest puzzle games on the market.
Another item I’m curious about is the graphics. What will they be like? Will I be immersed in the splendor of Daventry? Will they go 3D in this installment or will they keep it plain and simple in good old 2D? I don’t know if I could handle a 3 dimensional King’s Quest the lack polygons would confuse and destroy my childhood.
Wrapping things up here I will wait here expectantly for this new game to come out. I haven’t seen very many quest games being released lately and it is highly possible that Telltale could revive the genre with this game. Anyhuten goodbye people.
