Terreria Madness/I killed Mom's Heart Again

Hey guys just going to give a quick little update today. So I started to really get into Terraria in the past couple days. I managed to host a server for one of the other APR members and myself but couldn't duplicate the process when I tried to play with a few more of the site members. Thats when I realized my internet is so crappy that I can only host a server that holds one other person...... fml. Anyway as a former minecrafter I was skeptical of this seemingly 2-D minecraft clone. I bought it on the sales because i figured why not, and I haven't been disappointed. For all the readers out there who don't own this game yet..... Go out and buy it. It 's cheap there is a TON of content and I cant even begin to explain it. For minecrafters, give this game a shot, it really goes above and beyond and in my honest opinion, a better game than Minecraft. In other news I realized I forgot to explain the killing Mom's heart business in my other update. Binding of Isaac. Beat the game (not Sheol) twice with two different characters. This is serious business for me, and quite possible my biggest achievement to date. For those of you who don't know, BoI is a rogue like that is unforgiving. It is pretty difficult and follows the story of a boy named Isaac who is trying to escape his psychotic mother who is trying to kill him. The game involves quite a bit of strafing and WTF moments but is an all in all good experience. Anyway thats it for me.

My Revival Part God Knows What Number/I KILLED MOMS HEART!

Hey guys so yea I kinda screwed up with my promise of keeping up a weekly blog. Stuff went down December was a crazy month my computer crashed one week and then my internet crashed the next and then I just lost track of the time. Seriously guys its January 20th! What the flippin h! Where is my 2012 going?! That being said I'll give you an update on how my gaming life is going. I was sucked into the steam sales and blew quite a bit of money on games. All in all my steam library quadrupled and I am trying to work my way through this pile of games I had been putting off for too long.

I felt the need to start a seperate paragraph the above one was a little too jumbled for me. This paragraph will be dedicated to the games i have played/been playing since the last update. After that update I playing stopped Fallout 3 altogther because my computer crashed and I lost all my save data. I got a copy of skyrim and put a solid day into it. I got bored with the game at the 24 hour mark and then the steam sales started. After resisting for 3 days i broke down abought quite a few indie games including Terraria, Sequence and Dungeon Defenders. I've been slowly working my way through these games and I promise I will try to update more often. If anyone reads this just send me an email at will@averageplayerradio.com demanding updates and I will provide them. I've just recieved word I'm needed somewhere so I need to wrap this up.

Until next time,

-Will

So about Fallout 3.....

Quite a lot of stuff has happened between from when I started the game a month ago up to this current moment. The biggest event being the loss of all the data on my computer. I had to wipe my hard drive yesterday after my computer decided it wouldn't start up. I lost everything including my Fallout 3 game files and i really don't feel any particular desire to go back to the game just yet. I'm just a tad discouraged by the fact that i had over 20 hours of playtime on my file and I really don't want to have to play through the beginning bits of the game again. On the other hand i really did not get very far into the game and only just managed to find Dogmeat and get into Rivet City at the 19th hour mark in my file. Yes i literally wandered the wasteland for a day with no real purpose.... I just wanted to wander. I'll definitely try this game later but i want to play through S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and revisit Team Fortress 2. I've spent a great deal of time on these games already but after not having a computer for a week I've really been itching to play those titles again. Well thanks for reading I'll keep you posted with happenings and goings on sometime later this week or so.

So I got around to playing Fallout 3......

As a virgin player to the series I wanted to give some of my initial thoughts and reactions about the game play and other aspects of the game. I realize this game came out quite some time ago but I never really got around to playing it even so I thought i would do a quick comparison of the game to another that came out relatively close to the release of Fallout 3 that is in my opinion the only game that is really comparable to Fallout 3. That game is of course S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. If you follow the podcast you probably know of my fandom for this franchise and I wanted to comment on some aspects of the game i find better in Fallout 3 or STALKER.

My one biggest grievance of the game so far was the Pip-Boy. I know the love for this device but i honestly can't wrap my head around it. Navigating through the menu is rather tedious for me and the fact that everything in my inventory isn't an image makes the inventory just plain ugly to look at. Not only that but going through my inventory is painfully boring and I'm always over encumbered because i dread sorting through all the crap I pick up in the wasteland. In my opinion the game would have been better with a more image related inventory style seen in games such as STALKER and Champions of Norrath. These games allow for expansive inventories while still having organization needed in these large expansive games.

On a more positive note I like how smooth the shooting is in Fallout. In STALKER all the weapons are fairly inaccurate and it is almost impossible to strafe and fight enemies that are fast that move around the screen. For instance fighting psuedodogs can be the hardest part of the game because it is hard to move quickly and hit the creatures before they come back to attack the player. In fallout the gun handling is very polished and firefights are enjoyable. The guns are also fairly accurate and the VATS system just makes game play absolutely fantastic.

The atmosphere of both games is very bleak and I adore them both. Looking across the vast irradiated fields of what used to be Washington D.C. fills me with the same glee that STALKER's environment gave me. I love running into hideously deformed monsters and talking with the locals who try to forget about the horrid situation they are in. The RPG elements are defiant more prevalent in this game then in STALKER but I love how customizable this makes my character.

I guess I'm writing this article just to say how much I love Fallout so far. I will keep you guys posted about my progress and further insight to the game as i get farther along.

The New Quest

Hey Will here and as some of you may have heard a new King’s Quest game has been announced recently. When I heard about it I couldn’t help but write something. You see even though I was young for the whole King’s Quest fad in the ‘90’s I still played through King’s Quest VI: Heir Today Gone Tomorrow. When I say play it I mean I watched my older sister and mother struggle through the seemingly impossible challenge the game offered. It was the first video game I can remember actually caring about and I would sit down next to the computer every night to watch my sister and mother play; to me it was like watching a really fantastic TV show. But putting that entire backlog aside I’m actually excited to see how this game will turn out. I’m pretty sure the King’s Quest series stopped producing any new games in the late 90’s and it will be interesting to compare it to its predecessors.
There is no doubt in my mind that this game will hold up the King’s Quest legacy, Telltale has shown through their other adventure games (Sam and Max, Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, Monkey Island) that they still know how to make a fun and exciting game from such a seemingly boring genre. What I’m curious about is the difficulty of the game. Will it be as ridiculous as its predecessors or will it be watered down and easier to play? The reason I ask this is because I have been able to beat Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People and the first episode of Sam and Max with little to no difficulty. On the other hand when I recently dabbled in King’s Quest 6 and 7 I found the puzzles to be mind numbing and had to look online for help. I personally would prefer the game to be a little easier than the other ones but on the flip side that could tarnish the King’s Quest name, the series has established itself as being some of the hardest puzzle games on the market.
Another item I’m curious about is the graphics. What will they be like? Will I be immersed in the splendor of Daventry? Will they go 3D in this installment or will they keep it plain and simple in good old 2D? I don’t know if I could handle a 3 dimensional King’s Quest the lack polygons would confuse and destroy my childhood.
Wrapping things up here I will wait here expectantly for this new game to come out. I haven’t seen very many quest games being released lately and it is highly possible that Telltale could revive the genre with this game. Anyhuten goodbye people.
