Movie Based Beat 'Em Ups

The beat m up genre is a very interesting genre, you run around beating the crap out of enemy after enemy after enemy. To an extent this genre is seems to be a lazy approach that designers like to take for making a game, by this I mean that beat m up’s seem a little uncreative at times… and repetitive….and boring. Though there are some good beat m up’s out there such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance, X Men Legends, X Men Origins Wolverine, Deadriseing and many more. These are good because the designers actually took time to plan out the characters moves instead of punching the enemy over and over again. Marvel Ultimate Alliance and X Men legends are good because all the characters have different abilities and states, while X Men Origins Wolverine and Deadriseing are good because their bloody and that makes it kinda funny, both elements work. Unlike the games based on Avatar: the last Air bender, with the same repetitive moves, the same repetitive enemies, bad camera so on and so fourth which leads me into my real point. This is a message to all designers everywhere, IF YOUR GOING TO MAKE A GAME BASED ON A MOVIE OR TV SHOW, MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR ACUALY MAKING!!!! I thought avatar would have made a good game with interesting game play, using air bending to fly around, using earth bending to move mountains and shift the terrain. This could have made a good game, NOT a lame little beat m up, you’re supposed to play as the Avatar, he should be all powerful! The Harry Potter Games, the first 3 were actually good puzzle solving games, it makes sense, you’re playing as a wizard so you can use spells to solve puzzles in dungeons, my friends told me the fourth game was just a lame plat former/beat m up, then I saw demo footage and they were right, DESIGNERS, BE CREATIVE!!!! Don’t resort to beat m ups unless you truly think that is the best type of game play for the movie or TV show. Let’s take an example the show on cartoon network The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. You can call me crazy and send all the hate mail you want if you think this wouldn’t work. The show is about a boy named Flapjack and his friend Captain K’nuckles, they’re sailing the seas to find a place called Candied Island, they don’t have a ship they have a whale to ride on. What could work for a game is maybe it’s an open world exploring game where you explore all of the different islands, and we could use the idea from Wind Waker where you actually sail to the islands on the whale. I know this is wierd but it could work. That’s all I have to say I just thought I should get that out there. Thank you all for reading and have a good day.

Review: Sonic the Hedgehog

What’s up y'all, John here with a review of Sonic the Hedgehog for Xbox 360 and PS3. This review is a little more positive than the other reviews. For starters the controls, the controls for Sonic are the same as they have always been, in fact they have actually brought some elements back from the first 2 Sonic adventure games such as bouncing, and upgrading your character. Sonic can still do the homing attack and his other classic moves. However without a boost pad sonic doesn’t actually move very fast, it’s almost as if they focused so much on his moves that they forgot to make him fast. Which is why they threw in these unnecessary parts in a level where sonic will run really fast, he can’t stop, and the only thing you control is if he moves left or right and jumps. This is probably the most broken thing I have ever seen in a video game. When you’re jumping you can’t control which direction you go in so if you jump a little off the edge you die. As usual if you get hit by something you lose all of you rings , but since you can’t stop you can’t go back to get them so two hits and your dead. I had a lot more fun in the slower plat forming parts of the levels. In some levels a princess will be in your arms that you have to protect, usually in a video game escort missions are a pain in the ass because not only do you have to take care of yourself but this other person as well. That’s not the case here, she is in you arms the entire time so you don’t have to protect her, and she helps you with a force field that protects you from almost anything, it's actually fun. Some parts in this game are actually thrilling, the music helps, it fits the environment perfectly with its' fast beats and dramatic melody. In the hub world of Soleanna, there are little side missions you can do to earn rings, this would be fun if it wasn’t for the terrible loading time. There are a total of 4 loading screens for these missions and this lack of variation makes you want to avoid them as much as possible, this game has the worst loading time I have ever seen in any game, if you have played this game you know how bad the loading is, and if you listened to the first episode of average player, you know we don’t like loading on this show. The other characters have their own problems as well, Shadow plays just like Sonic accept that you can drive vehicles (which makes no sense since he can run faster than a vehicle), this slows down the game play and feels out of place, and the third hedgehog Silver isn’t fast at all, he’s telekinetic, the telekinesis works but it doesn’t need to be here. The frame rate slows down at random times and some parts of the game look like they still need to be worked on graphics wise, but there were parts where I did have fun. Therefore my final diagnoses is that this game should only be rented, BUT only by hardcore sonic fans, by this I mean if you have never played a sonic game in your life don’t make this one your first.
