Management Games

My friend recently introduced me to "Tiny Tower" by Nimblebit.  This is a quirky indie game where you manage your own apartment building.  I also descovered this game is perfect for playing in class.  its not very intense and requires alot waiting to play.  Why is it so much fun though.

Most management games allow a player to control entire cities or even worlds.  This kind of power is very fun to wield.  While your responsible for all of the people you control.  However I often find myself wondering why is "Tiny Tower" fun?  You cant really control any of the people that populate your world.  Its mostly telling people to restock businesses and bringing people to different floors using the elevator!  Ah im going to keep pondering this in class while I try to keep going to 100 floors

Humble Bundle Pack

The humble bundle pack is unlike any other video game package I’ve ever purchased.  It is a pack of games that you pay what you want for it.  The Pack is a group of indie games, including the retro space shooter, Jamestown, side scrolling action game Shank, psychedelic running game BIT.TRIP RUNNER, a dark game called night sky, and the classic Super Meat boy.  These games cost as much as you are willing to pay for them, and if you pay above the average price $5.21 as of yesterday, they throw in two other games as well.  The very fun Gratuitous Space Battles and Cave story+.  I highly; recommend these simple, fun and highly addictive games.  It is great to see a group that supports indie gaming so much.  The cherry on top is that percent of your money goes to help Childs Play and the American Red cross.  All of these causes are worth your money. Support independent game development!  If your interested the link is http://www.humblebundle.com/

Steam Sales!

This recent steam sale has got me exploring into a variety of genres that I haven’t looked into before.  My primary reservation on trying new games is the $60 price tag that can be associated with a game that I might not even like.  This has all changed however, due to valve’s steam sale.  Most AAA games are on sale for 75% off, taking games like Batman Arkham city and Metro 2023 to sub $30.  This also affords me to opportunity to try games that I wouldn’t buy otherwise.  One of the games I recently purchased due to the sale was Killing Floor.  This game is relatively old, it came out in 2009, but it heavily supported by tripwire interactive, also the developers of the Red Orchestra series.  This coop game is something quite unique.  It is similar to call of duty zombies, but with a few important quirks.

1)      There is a great variety of zombies.  They range for the standard infected, easy to dispatch, to insane chain gun wielding boss zombies that take damage like no other enemy in the game.

2)      It is almost impossible to play without friends.  The waves get progressively harder, and while it is nice there is a solo mode, especially to strengthen your skills, it is mandatory to fight with other people if you want to get far.

3)      The game is scary!  Tripwire has a very ironic sense of horror and frequently releases themed zombies, such as the current Christmas themed horde.

Not a Christmas you want to be a part of.

4)      There is a class system, but with a few caveats.  The classes do not unlock certain guns for you, such as in the battlefield series, but they do make it easier to purchase weapons, and they help make you more deadly with them when you do finally earn enough to buy a special gun

While I did pick this title up for $7 on sale, it is certainly worth the msrp.  I am very happy I tried something a little out of my comfort zone and started playing this co-op shooter.  Take advantage of the steam sales and make sure to try something a little different.  Variety is the spice of life after all.

PC Gaming

PC gaming has been around since video games started. Originally, it was the only way for people enjoy video games. Granted, these games were originally titles such as Spacewar! and text based adventures such as Bards Tale people still enjoyed them. In 2011 PC Games establish the forefront of Video Game Technology, both in Hardware and Software. Modern Innovations such as Direct x11 allow games to look more beautiful than they ever have before. New Hardware allows the progression of Games to continue.

Pc Gamers are a rare breed. Pc gaming is relatively easy to get into, as you can always buy a premade computer system. However, the vast majority prefer to build their own systems. This is when most of the main advantages of PC gaming come to life. The excitement of creating a personalized system does not compare to many other things. Gamers can decide all the components that they want to go into their new computer. Customized PC systems often allow for extensive upgrading. This way, a PC gamer can continue into the future knowing they are prepared for the latest and greatest games.

I recently just finished a New Build. My new system is rather modest with a:

MSI 760GM-P33

AMD Phenom II x4 processor

4gb of Corsair RAM

2x Asus Read/Write Dvd Drives

XFX Nvidia 9500 GT

NZXT Vulcan Case

While i built this computer on a budget, I left myself the opportunity for upgrades. Often PC Gamers are tinkerers that enjoy tweaking their systems and constantly changing things. This doesn't mean that a system won't go unchanged for a while. The reward of building a system is sitting back and admiring your work.

This column will be about the Tech of PC gaming and the occasional review.
